Alex McKellar (LLB, B.E.(Hons)), is the principal construction lawyer in the firm's Property & Construction Group. After a brief stint in consulting engineering, Alex moved to law in 2002 working with John Pilley, a pre eminent construction lawyer in Australia, eventually creating the firm Pilley McKellar Construction Lawyers.  Pilley McKellar joined Moores Legal in 2011.

Alex has conducted litigation for plaintiffs and defendants in various building and engineering matters including representing government agencies, building owners, developers, builders, subcontractors, designers, surveyors, engineers and consultants across Australia.  Alex has instructed in substantial construction cases in the Supreme Courts of Victoria and Tasmania including the State of Tasmania v Leighton Contractors Pty Ltd and Kane Constructions Pty Ltd v Sopov & Ors.

 

Alex's expertise in advice and litigation encompasses security of payment regimes in all Australian states (excluding South Australia, where no security of payment regime exists) and includes adjudication application, conduct of arbitration, suspension of works, recovery of payment from principal and enforcement of adjudication decisions.

 

Alex lectures in the legal aspects of project management including tenders and contract management for the Masters course at Victoria University. Alex also co-authored an industry handbook for specialised contractors on the security of payment legislation.
