Andrew Gale (LLB, BMS(Hons)) worked as a property consultant before being admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in New Zealand. He worked in the property law group of a large commercial firm in Auckland before travelling and settling in Victoria where he was admitted to practice in 2008.

After a solid grounding in general commercial property law, including acquisitions and sales, Andrew has developed significant expertise in all aspects of commercial and retail leasing, acting for both landlords and tenants.  Andrew regards the role of a leasing lawyer as a balancing act between the commercial interests of the parties and the relevant legal requirements, whilst recognising the continuing nature of the tenancy relationship.

Andrew provides legal and consulting advice to lawyers, accountants, property managers, financial advisors and their respective clients.  His main areas of practice are:

  • Drafting, review and negotiation of all aspects of retail and commercial leases, including agreements to lease with construction aspects;
  • Advice in relation to commercial tenancy disputes and lease enforcement, including lease termination and the preparation of statutory default notices;
  • Preparation of licences;
  • Partnering and joint venture project agreements for property acquisition and developments;
  • Vendor and purchaser due diligence investigations for commercial property;
  • Stamp duty advice;
  • Advice in relation to planning requirements.
