Privacy Law took a new step in Australia with the commencement in December 2001 of the Privacy Act, which extended privacy rights to individuals with regard to personal information collected and used by organisations. Victorian legislation has also been passed complementing the Commonwealth Privacy Act and applies to State Government departments and all health service suppliers.
