Name Change

A child's name cannot be changed without the other parent's agreement or a Court order. The Court will only allow a change of name if it is in the child's best interests. One example might be when there is no contact with the father. Otherwise such an application is seldom successful.

An adult is free to change their name at any time with no formality. A woman may revert to her maiden name at any time. Her birth certificate can be produced as proof of that identity.
